Story

As most of you are aware, we sadly lost Richard, on 12th June 2014. He was travelling in Seattle at the time, and had been there since late February.

In recent years Richard battled with depression and alcoholism, and despite his best efforts, and those of his family and close friends, he struggled to come to terms with his addiction.

He moved to Emmaus in April 2013, as a desperate attempt to get himself back on the straight and narrow. The Structure, discipline and support that Emmaus provided him, enabled him to stay dry for 9 months. Emmaus was exactly what he needed at that time in his life and although initially settling into the community was hard, he later described his time there as the best of his life.

He was feeling so well in the early part of this year, he made the decision to see a bit of America, and on the 27th February 2014, he flew to Seattle. Richards brother Jamie, and wife Hannah. flew to visit him in early May, and the three of them  spent a very memorable two weeks together.

Sadly at that time, Richard was trying to reintroduce himself to "normal" drinking habits. This was to have severe consequences a few weeks later.

Emmaus was a charity that he respected very much, and spoke very highly of them and their achievements during and after his time there. As a result, if anyone should want to do anything in his memory, we ask that the proceeds benefit the charity who gave him so much joy.
