Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So back in January I went through my usual phase of feeling that this would be the year that I discover a love of salad and running and that by summer I would be an athletic kale loving goddess. During this period of misguided optimism, my wonderfully enthusiastic friend and colleague Holly, who happens to be our community fundraiser at York Mind, encouraged me to sign up for the York 10k. August, is 8 months away - start training now - no problem! Yet here I am, 4 weeks to go, decidedly un-goddess like and dreading the entire humiliating event.
However, there is one positive to this sad tale and that is that I get the chance to raise some much needed money for a charity that is incredibly close to my heart - York Mind.
York Mind are a leading mental health charity offering support in a variety of ways to people in York and Selby. I have been lucky enough to work for this amazing organisation for over 2 years now and it has been and continues to be a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. Every person who works there is full of compassion and drive to support those experiencing mental ill health as well as promoting awareness and challenging the stigma that still surrounds the issue.
We live in a time of continued cuts to services, particularly within the NHS, and this means that charities like York Mind are needed more than ever to ensure that people who are in desperate need of support, do not feel that they are alone. The people who walk through our doors are all unique individuals who have found themselves struggling, often due to circumstances outside of their control. It could be any of us.
So preach over, I would be hugely grateful to any of you that could spare any of your hard earned cash for this beautiful cause, and allow us to continue to support the thousand plus people we currently reach each year.
Yes, I would much rather be sitting on my arse, in my pjs, eating Ben & Jerrys and watching Netflix, but for one Sunday morning I will be dragging that arse round York and trying not to require medical assistance. Surely to any of you who know me that's worth a couple of quid...
Thanks and love, Han :) xxx
