We offer emotional support to people who are suicidal or despairing

Story

People generally know that I have a background in the charity sector, what they don't know is that I am sometimes affected by moments of madness.

In one such moment I signed up to a team triathlon with my friends Matt and Alison.  I picked the short straw and got the swim section - 750m in Docklands.  Matt is taking on the cycling and Alison is going for the sprint finish.

To disguise this lapse in judgement, I am raising funds for the Kingston Samaritans.  This is a local branch of the main organisation, who are a charity in their own right and have to raise their own funds to keep operational. They are available 24 hours a day providing confidential, emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair. (call 116 123 freephone)  They are currently fundraising for the refurbishment of a new building in Kingston, which will enable them to support more people in the local area.
