Story
As many of you know, my friend Sarah is living with Multiple Sclerosis and makes the drive from her home in Largo, Fife to Dundee twice a week for oxygen therapy. The MS Therapy Centre in Peddie Street Dundee is the closest hyberbaric oxygen (HBO) chamber to Sarah. The HBO treatment helps Sarah with her MS symptoms and the centre in Dundee is a fantastic facility. It supports so many people, it runs as a charity and relies purely on charitable funding.
Any funding raised for the centre remains there for the benefit of the people who use it. This centre is invaluable as this provision is not available on the NHS. Furthermore, the NHS offers less provision for people living with MS in terms of access to rehab, treatment, alternative therapy and support, compared to people living with more common long term conditions.
That is why I want to run to raise support for Sarah and the Centre. Sarah uses a built in breathing system (BIBS) to receive her oxygen but the centre has only one that Sarah can use and she often attends when others use the BIBS. I would like to help raise funds towards a second BIBS. This would benefit Sarah during her twice weekly visit to the centre.
I believe a little effort from others can make a big difference to individuals whose quality of life is altered by a long term condition – that is why I am doing a run for Sarah - roughly 24.5-26miles from the MS Therapy centre in Dundee to her house in Largo.
Thank you in advance for any contributions that will help to support Sarah to continue her access to the centre.
