Story

Last weekend Hetty's donate and Dazzle shop in Huthwaite was broken into, for the second time! I know right, so what ? We can claim on the insurance ? that's where you'd be wrong the goods taken weren't covered on the insurance. That isn't even the biggest issue the property was so badly damaged that its going to take £1500 to secure and repair! and with no shop open how are we gong to raise the funds for the repairs?

Whats sad about all this is that money could of been spent helping a vulnerable family in the Nottinghamshire area. Vulnerable family you ask ? A family who has been affected by a loved ones drug or alcohol misuse. I'm losing the awh factor right now aren't i? that's why its so difficult to raise funds for Hetty's people kinda think so what.....but believe me the work we do is important and it far reaches what you think we do.

Hetty's helps families stay together through help and guidance of the kinship car programme (that's grandparents and other relatives taking over care giving responsibilities)  without helping and guiding these families, these children would end up in care, taxpayers would be funding their care but instead they are able to grow up in their local area and still be in the family unit.

Addiction can affect anyone, we've all got our stereotypes of what addicts look like, and let me tell you wipe the slate clean with that one. You probably work with a functioning addict who has a family you've just never known. Addiction is a disease which takes hold of the person a family once held dear and turns them into something they've never been before. Don't even get me started on being addicted to the addiction ?! Yes that's right once an addict becomes clean, the family suffers withdrawal because they are so used to looking after this person, and worrying about this person all of a sudden they don't have to, and they kind of feel at a loose end. The work we do is very specialist and the country is lucky to have us let alone Nottinghamshire!

So what do we offer to the local community why do we need these funds ? The two charity shops wee have run second hand dress agency, yay pretty dresses! stunning dresses that can be hired for special occasions, so that girl that has been living in borderline poverty all through school finally has the chance to be a princess at prom. The lad that's getting angry at school and getting into fights, because his parents are addicts and he does not know how to deal with these issues, is now attending the MPACT programme  which is helping him understand his emotions more so he can have a bit better start in life. The mother of an addict who is suffering crippling anxiety about her addicted son, is attending a relaxing reiki healing session, so she can at least forget for maybe an hour, and then be ready to be there for her son again. Those volunteers that were building there confidence up at the Huthwaite shop have no where to go today because its shut. The fun run that we do at Brierley park which is attended by over 200 families  gives these  families a free activity day (other than raising funds) during in the summer holidays.

This is just a snippet of what we do and the kind of activities i've been involved in ,in just over two years of volunteering for the charity. I'd be typing all day if i was describing what the team get up to day to day.

So please help us get the shop back up and running so we can raise those much needed funds to help keep us going!

Thank you so much

Helen (Helly)

xoxo
