Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July 2015 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Within a few weeks, I had had a mastectomy with immediate reconstructive surgery. Declared cancer-free within days and needing no radio- or chemo- therapy, I will now be on free, routine preventative medication for up to 10 years.
My story is not unusual in the UK where a whole range of diagnostic & treatment options are freely available. In Gaza, however, provision is woefully inadequate. Even if a woman is able to have effective surgery, there are no facilities for radiotherapy in Gaza and permits for travel to Jerusalem, Egypt or Jordan (where such treatment is available) may not be granted by the Israeli authorities. Drugs for chemotherapy and/or hormone therapy are in short supply and, as a result, lives that should be saved are being lost.
Embrace the Middle East is a Christian charity that, in partnership with the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza, is helping to provide breast cancer care and counselling services to innocent women who are paying a very high price just for living in such a hostile environment. I have been blessed by the availability of good and reliable treatment and I hope to be able to use my own experience, together with your generosity, to similarly bless the women of Gaza.
