Story
Can't quite believe I'v actually agreed to do this!!.... I'll blame the Hormones!.....Not usually a great fan of heights but my family and friends have convinced me I can do it, so deposit paid I am now going to do a Skydive!!!
For those of you who know me and for those of you who don't here is a brief outline of my story and why I'd like to raise funds and awareness of Hereditary Breast Ovarian Cancer Helpline . In November 2007 I discovered that I had inherited the faulty BRCA1 gene which increased my risk of developing Breast Cancer (85%) and Ovarian Cancer (40-60%). After finding out this news I can only describe my life as going into "free fall" a spiralling circle that I felt I had no control over ( seems ironic now that I am going to jump out of a plane). In between research, Google and attending a Breast Reconstruction evening I happened by chance to stumble across my Guardian Angel Wendy Watson and the Hereditary Breast Ovarian Cancer Helpline. It was with Wendy's support that I found my surgeon in Manchester and went ahead with my preventative double mastectomy and reconstruction in November 2009 which is still ongoing with many "tweaks" along the way, followed by a Hysterectomy in November 2015. Without the Helpline I would not be in the fortunate position I am today, my life enriched with support from family, friends and my BRCA sisters. The charity receives no government funding and relies on donations and fundraising events, so for me taking part in a Skydive is the least I can do. Please will you help me in raising funds for this invaluable helpline so it can continue to go on supporting many more Women/Men ( yes men are affected too) and their families. Many many Thanks in advance. Much love XX
