Drew is 3 and a half and has a life limiting illness called Diamond Blackfan Anaemia. Born with bone marrow that fails to produce enough red blood cells to sustain life, he has relied on frequent blood transfusions to keep him alive. Unfortunately Drew's condition came with the additional complication of full bone marrow failure, he no longer produces platelets that would stop any bleeding & neutrophils that fight off infection.
Our silver lining, in what was a very grey cloud was Lexie, Drew's big sister, she is a tissue match and is therefore able to donate her bone marrow to save her brother.
Drew is currently in Manchester children's hospital, having received some pretty nasty chemotherapy drugs to remove his own bone marrow. Lexie joins him tomorrow (26th June 2014) ready for her operation on Friday to have some of her bone marrow 'harvested'.
The DBA charity, it's committee & family members have been a massive support to our family, and we would be very grateful if you are able to donate funds to the charity so it can continue it's research and support, because this isn't the end of our story.
Thank you
