Play Bus for Tohoku, Japan Disaster Area, 13 May 2017

Story

In April 2012 I visited north east Japan to explore children's outdoor environments in the post disaster area. This visit was funded by the Daiwa Anglo Japanese Foundation.

The devastation from the eathquake, tsunami and nuclear power plant failure is extensive both physically and socially.

Many people, including children are in temporary housing units. Many of these temporary housing areas do not have outdoor play spaces, although they do have lots of tarmac for car parking.

There are play workers who use a play bus to provide specific opportunities for children to play outdoors. They need another play bus and I want to support them by this campagin to raise funds for another play bus.

There is a need to raise money to buy the bus (£8,000) and maintain it for a year (£10,000) or two. These costs include for thinkgs such as bus maintenance, petrol, parking, leaflets so the children know when the bus will be where. If we raise enough we might even be able to pay for an extra play worker (£22,000 per year).

Helping Hands for Japan are already working with some people and children in this part of Japan and they are partnering with me in this project.
