We raise awareness and funds to support premature babies & sick children

Story

Our beautiful 6 year old daughter Hollie, would like to have her hair cut for charity.

Hollie has been inspired by her school friend who was diagnosed with cancer this time last year, and lost her hair during treatment. Another of their friends had her hair cut to raise funds, and Hollie decided off of her own back, that she would like to do the same.

It took a while for it to sink in that her hair would not actually go to her friend ! And it has taken us a few months since her decision, to grow it to the required length to donate it to the Little Princess Trust. The Trust provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the U.K. who have sadly lost their hair through cancer treatment.

But now, we are ready  . . .

For this event, we would like to try and raise some funds for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation.

This is a charity close to our hearts for two reasons. We have several friends who have stayed in the PPBF flat near Southampton Hospital, and we know how vitally important it is to be close by. But, not only do they help families of poorly local children who have to travel to Southampton, by providing this vital accommodation, they also support the Neo-Natal Unit on Frossard Ward, by purchasing much needed and often life-saving equipment.

Just over 10 ½ years ago, our son Ciaran was born 3 months early. He spent 3 months in hospital, the majority of which was spent in the SCBU (NICU) at Frossard Ward. The PPBF had just purchased a new state of the art incubator, and we were lucky enough to be able to utilise this piece of equipment whilst Ciaran was in hospital.

He was very poorly during his time in hospital, and like many premmies, he had many complications. I remember being told that he'd had a bleed on his brain. As clear as if it was yesterday, I recall the conversation we had with the Pediatrician when they explained that they did not know how it would affect him, but that he may have learning difficulties, or problems walking in the future. That hit us like a ton of bricks. But, we have been lucky with our little fighter, he has had no real lasting problems, and is off to the Grammar School in September !

The PPBF have come on in leaps and bounds since those early stages, and they continue to fundraise for much needed equipment, and support local families. They are also currently trying to raise funds for a second flat in Southampton, such is the need by local families.

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. I know there are many calls for our money at this difficult time, but I hope you will be able to support Hollie in her quest and donate just a little to this wonderful cause, who are doing so much for local families.
