Story

Our very dear friend, Simon Gray, passed away on 11 Jul 16 after a long illness. He was a remarkable man and an inspiration to us all. Not only did he make us all strive to be better people (more like him) he also encouraged us to be more spontaneous, live for the day and just get on a do things a bit more. He was a physical legend and always managed to find himself on over-ambitious challenges, that would usually deter even the most gnarly of physical specimens. It is for this reason that 8 of Simon's close RM friends will be conducting a Home-to-Home (H2H) run, between Tony and Penny Gray's house in Worcester, and Simon and Emma's family home nr Ottery St Mary in Devon. The 'run' will be approx 180 miles (depending on navigational challenges) and we aim to complete it between 2 Teams in 3 days. Each person will be running at least 30 miles per day, for 3 days. Adding to the challenge is that the 'runners' are now very much 'non-runners' and instead have developed a penchant for activities more akin to retired Officers such as steady cycling, fair-weather gardening and eating too many carbs. We will run H2H this October (slightly sweating thinking about it) and will be raising money for Hospisecare Exeter who were an extraordinary help to Simon, Emma, the girls and Simon's family in the final few months. We hope Simon would be suitably proud of a challenge where his mates are appropriately out of their depth and running in his honour.
