The Rohingyas are one of the most persecuted communities in the world. Although, they have been living in the state of Arakan since the 8th century (Burma), the Rohingyas have been under extreme scrutiny by the Burmese government. They haven't been recognised as citizens of The Union of Burma since the 1962 coup. After decades of oppression and marginalisation, the passing of the 1982 Citizenship Law deemed them officially stateless.
Where do I come in?:
Like you, I am deeply saddened by the persecution being faced by these people, And like you I would like to do something, even if it's the most smallest action but action regardless.
I know living in the UK I may not be able to physically support these people, but what I can do is raise awareness of their plight and money to support some of them.
I feel all of us have a duty as human beings to look out for each other, it doesn't metter if they are from our own or not, they are people and as such I hope with your help I can raise enough to support a few.
What am I going to do?:
My actions are going to be very small compared to the support I need from you. I hope to raise some money for the charity Hope Foundation Trust , a charity which is currently working with many of the displaced Rohingya people, it is hoped that the money you donate will be used for food and other emergencies.
Now what am I going to do? Well simply put I plan to live on £1 a day for 10 days (I hope to start from Tuesday 26/05/2015), that's breakfast, lunch and dinner for just £1 per day, I am not allowed to accept invites (just in case anyone feels sorry for me) and I hope to share my experience with you all on a daily basis.
What do I want from you?:
I am sure this parts obvious to you all, I WANT YOU TO DONATE. Yes I would really love you all to donate as much as you can to help me raise my target (and if possible go beyond), share my updates with your friends/family and encourage others to donate too.
Lastly please pray that I can achieve this personal challenge, I know what ever we do will only be a small drop in the ocean of this issue but it's something.
