A combination of being inspired by Ruth, a Mission Direct volunteer team leader, about the plight of some of the poorest people in Cambodia who depend on the rubbish heaps for their livelihood; and a desire to enable 3 of our team, who have come from a different kind of hardship that has involved addiction and prison, to experience serving as a team in a different culture, has been the motivation for this trip.

A local Cambodian Pastor heard of families living under tarpaulin in a nearby field.  The authorities had bulldozed their homes in the city slum, to clear land for development, piled everyone into a truck and driven them outside of the city.  They were left there with nothing.  The Pastor and his church raised enough money to buy some land so new homes could be built, safe from future land clearing.  Mission Direct are helping with the house construction.

We will be supporting and working with this ongoing project in Phomn Penh, providing man-power and building materials for the proper brick houses, now that the temporary bamboo housing has been completed. This is what you can support by your giving. Thank you so, so much.
