Story
Please read this even though it's a long one....it will be worth
it I promise
This year I have told myself it is going to be the year that
I get back in to my fundraising for cystic fibrosis after having a pretty quiet year last year.
So my first challenge of 2016 I will be taking part in will be
the annual Lincoln 10k alongside one of my good friends.
This however will be slightly different than just normally
running around the 10k, I will be running with Nathan Cumberland with whom I served in the army with and that is what makes it more special!
Nathan sadly lost both his legs in an IED blast back in 2009
literally days after I got shot in head. I always remember visiting him in
hospital in Afghanistan just before he was flown back to England. I was amazed at how strong and upbeat he was even though he had just lost both legs!! He has definitely taught me a thing or two with regards to feeling sorry for myself and he has shown me that even when times are tough always try to remain positive and keep moving forward. I'm so proud to say he has gone from strength to strength with everything he's achieved since that fateful day, even representing Great Britain at shot put and competing in the Invinctus Games.
Now this is where it gets interesting, Nathan has never done
anywhere near a 10k race on his prosthetic limbs before so this will really be a massive challenge for him. His training for the 10k is well underway already and even though he is finding it hard work I know he is determined to achieve what will be an amazing feat. He will also be carrying 55lbs (25kgs) in bergan on his back just to add to the task.
I on the other hand will be getting the fridge back out and
running with that silly thing on my back again. Seeing as I haven’t done
anything like this in ages I have had to start pounding the pavement and get running again. I will be looking to beat my time from a couple of years back (1hour 9min 35sec) I am no where near as fit as I was, but hopefully I can do that and if I don't every minute I'm over it I will donate £25 to the cause.
So this is where the important part comes and we ask you to please support and sponsor us. I think it's a worthy cause and seeing as Nathan has never done this before so it will make this years run that bit more special!!
We are also looking for people to come and run with us and to
possibly help raise even more money. It would also be great for motivation on the day and to also carry charity buckets around and see if we can collect some shrapnel and raise even more funds on the way round!
So if anyone fancies it drop me a message, ex Army, currently
serving and Lincoln friends more than welcome. The more the merrier….
Once again any donation small or large is greatly welcomed and I would like to thank you in advance for your support!!
Love Iain x
