Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My darling mama, Helene Nolder unfortunately lost her battle with metastatic Breast cancer on the 29th June 2016. She was a beautiful, intelligent, funny, kind & stubborn woman and she lived her life to the full. In 2009 she was diagnosed with primary breast cancer. She fought the disease, having a mastectomy, chemo and radiation therapy. It took a year but was told she was in remission at the end of 2010.
She was thrilled with this and went on to live life to the fullest enjoying the simplest things. Good food, wine, chatting to friends, travelling to her beloved South of France. Where she would immerse herself into the local culture. She loved nothing more than going the local market talking to everyone. Buying and eating the fresh produce. Spending time with friends and family. Reading for hours on the grass by the beach & enjoying the daily aperitif.
Cruelly in December 2012 she was told that the cancer had returned. This time in her liver. She was understandably devastated. I, Elise returned home travelling to surprise her on her birthday and with Peter we moved in to help support both her & my father Terence Nolder.
In January 2013 the diagnosis was not promising but she attacked the treatment with all of her strength. She spent most of the year having chemo, blood transfusions, injections to boost her white blood cells. And in December 2013 we were told that her tumors had shrunk to over half their original size. She was now eligible to have pioneering liver re-section surgery. So in April 2014 she had the first of two operations. And in May she had the second. The recovery was long and hard but she made sure she went to the South of France for a few months giving herself a better chance of sun, fresh oysters, Pastis and of course recovery.
She was put on Oral chemo until June 2015. But the cancer was metastatic and would not leave her alone. In June 2015 she was told it had gone to her stomach lining. She was once again given more chemo. Test and trial until they could find the right combo. And for a while they did, the chemo was not making her too ill and she was enjoying life again.
But in December 2015 the cancer mutated and the chemo was no longer working. Time to change treatment once again!
Like a fighter she took everything they threw at her. She was determined to be here for her birthday (27th April), her 44th Wedding Anniversary (29th April), my father's birthday (12th May) and finally my birthday (8th June). She reached all of these milestones and enjoyed the celebrations immensely.
But beyond the 8th June the cancer grew stronger and her weaker. She fought the illness until the bitter end and her family (Terry, Elise, Ginette & Peter) were by her side the whole way.
But sadly on Wednesday 29th June 2016. Our Angel passed away.
She is gone but will never be forgotten. In her memory we would like to raise some funds for a very worthy charity. They are small & independent and help people suffering with the same disease as my mama, often in real need of advice & support.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this & donating. It really does means everything.
Much love
Elise, Terry, Ginette, Peter & of course our wonderful Helene xxxxx
