Here I go again. On the 23rd of April, I am once again running the Stena Drilling 10K at Run Balmoral!

This will be the fourth year that I have taken part at Run Balmoral raising funds for GASTROCAN, a cause which is so close to my heart. After losing my husband Roy to oesophageal cancer in November 2012, I wanted to give something back to the people who helped him in his fight against this devastating disease.

GASTROCAN is a local research fund which supports a team of oncologists and geneticists who conduct research into gastric and oesophageal cancer.

Since last year I was lucky enough to be given a tour of the research labs and meet the researchers who carry out the clinical trials to improve treatments for these devastating diseases. My late husband Roy benefitted from one of these trials and it was fantastic to see how far the research has come.

Unfortunately these cancers are on the increase and with only one in ten people beating these diseases compared with eight in ten being diagnosed with breast cancer, GASTROCAN's research is vital.

So I would be so grateful if you could spare a few coppers for this worthwhile cause.

One day they will find that elusive cure!
