Story
Hi everyone,
In February 2012 I will be running, walking or crawling my way to the finish line of the Sahara Marathon. My only prior experience of running is catching the 35 bus on my way to work and year 8 cross-country so I think I'm in for a challenge...
Why am I doing this?
As one in a team of 10 trainee dramatherapists, I am raising funds to spend 10 days in the Saharawi Refugee camps in the Western Sahara.
The Marathon will take place on the second day of a 10-day research project organised by Olive Branch Theatre Company and Sandblast which will see us offering dramatherapy sessions in the landmine victims centre, special needs schools and prison in the camps. The over-riding purpose of the project is to assess scope for further long-term dramatherapeutic work in the camps.
The Saharawi Refugees are the forgotten people of the Western Sahara who have been living in exile in the harsh Algerian desert since 1975. For more information about the Saharawi plight please watch the attached video of our theatre project and check out Sandblasts website.
