Story
Hello hello,
In August I will be hiking the perimeter of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada, USA with my uncle and cousin to raise money for our chosen charity, Children of Masindi. (http://www.childrenofmasindi.org)
Children of Masindi is a Bristol-based charity which was set up by my mum in 2008, after an exchange visit between her school at the time and the Kamurasi school in Masindi, Uganda.
After paying for a bill to supply water to the Kamurasi school for one year my mum recognised the real benefits that can be made to people's lives with a little bit of investment.
Since then, the charity has grown from strength to strength, with trustees visiting Masindi every year to work independently and with local charities to ensure the many generous donations they have received go straight to the most needworthy causes.
To date this has funded the relocation of a boarding school for children with special needs, the construction of a water-harvesting tank, a kitchen/dining outhouse and funding towards the malaria net providing Miirya Project.
The charity supports all children and young people in Masindi but with a particular focus on helping those with diasbilities develop vocational skills, a field which my mum has worked in for the majority of her career.
The full hike which I will be undertaking with my uncle Richard will be a gruelling tramp at an average altitude of 8,000 ft, across 170 miles, 6 mountains, 2 states (Nevada & California) & 1 lake: Tahoe - the largest alpine lake in North America.
We would be incredibly grateful for any donation - however big or small - to ensure that CoM can continue to improve the lives of children in Masindi.
Please note - any money you kindly donate will not be going towards our transport, accomodation, food etc but directly to the charity itself.
Yours always,
Jim Edwards
