Story
Journey for James is an extreme cycling challenge of over 1,100kms which will take place in SW France over 4 days, between 8 – 11 Sept this year. As well as the extreme distances involved, the challenge will also go from sea-level to the summit of Col du Tourmalet at 2,115 meters, (7,000 feet), or a staggering 1.31 miles of vertical climb for the riders! The event will take in both the Atlantic and Mediterranean coast of France and will finish in the village of Cahuzac sur Vere, near Gaillac, in the Tarn. It is a huge challenge of endurance which will test the riders to the limit and beyond anything they have experienced before.
This year’s Journey for James is being undertaken to support The Back Up Trust, a registered charity which supports those will spinal injuries. Early last year at the young age of 16, our good friend James Morrison was diagnosed with a Ewings Sarcoma, which has left him paralysed from the chest down. James has endured the shock of the diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, all with great courage, determination and a smile. His aim now is to rebuild his life and get back on with his studies. Clearly, James needs considerable support from both his parents, friends and from Tamsin, his inspirational occupational therapist from Kings. Tamsin introduced James to The Back Up Trust which provides fantastic support, learning and development opportunities for people like James. It is James’s wish that all the proceeds from this year’s Journey for James goes to The Back Up Trust.
We sincerely hope you will support the The Back Up Trust , and through it, this inspirational young man and the future challenges his life ahead will bring.
