Story
John Byrne was a great friend, a business man, and fantastic father figure
His family were everything to him, Sue his wife, Louis, Ethan and Jude
his three sons, but it is from Louis, his oldest son that we are taking our
inspiration.
Born, a healthy bouncing baby boy, he suffered three brain hemorrhages
in rapid succession and the devastated family were offered little hope.
With the help and assistance of fantastic organisations like Brainwave,
who do amazing work bring measurable improvements to children with physical, sensory, learning, behavioral and cognitive issues, Louis went from strength to strength.
We are all proud to say that Louis, with the odds stacked against him,
bravely celebrated his 18th birthday not long ago.
But it was a celebration with more than a tinge of sadness attached.
John sadly passed away in 2015 after losing a hard, and bravely fought
battle with cancer, leaving an irreplaceable hole in their family life.
It also left a hole in the family of the people from Brainwave, they
lost a sponsor, an ambassador and a great friend.
So, five of us Ian Drury (Dell), Simon Dexter, Paul Burgess, Stuart Shimmin and Luke Rafferty, are endeavoring to run the Great North Run to raise some much needed funds for the organisation so they can continue their work offering families the support THEY need as they deal with the trials of coming to terms with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism and other development delay conditions within their children.
Now, if you know us, you’ll know that the phrase endeavour to run is a correct one.
None of us are athletes, but we all know a good cause when we see one.
Our aim is to not make a show of ourselves, actually finish the course
and, most importantly, to raise £3000.00 in the name of Brainwave.
For more information please visit http://www.brainwave.org.uk/ and see some of the inspirational, challenging, but ultimately loving work they do there.
Thank you for your support.
