Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Joe (who is in fact scared of heights) will be doing a 300ft bungee jump at Bray Lake in Windsor on Sunday 28th August at 3.00pm. Joe has chosen to raise money for the charity - Younger People with Dementia (Berkshire).
YPWD (Berkshire West) was set up in 2012 and provides a range of support and ancillary services to younger people with dementia (those diagnosed below the age of 65), and to their families and carers, within the Berkshire area.
This is a charity close to Joe and his family's heart as people with Down's syndrome are at a greater risk of developing dementia - it is estimated that 1 in 50 people with Down's syndrome develop dementia in their 30s and this increases to more than half of those who live to 60 or over.
Whilst Joe is ridiculously eager to complete the challenge, no one can predict whether his fear of heights will get the better of him on the day so please bear this in mind when deciding whether to donate!
Please feel free to come to watch the bungee jump on the day also, I'm sure Joe will appreciate all the support and encouragement he can get!
Your donations will help fund:
Education and social evenings for those affected by young onset dementia
Support groups and activities specifically for carers
Therapeutic and social projects such as gardening, walking, theatre and heritage outings
Transport for patients and carers so that they can take part in support programmes
Support workers with specialist training
The provision of short and longer-term respite care for those affected by young onset dementia
