We support the work of the NAS to help save lives in Nepal

Story

Jones Day is raising money for the incredible Friends of Nepal Ambulance Service, the charity which is instrumental in training and supporting Nepal's first and only ambulance service.

The Nepal Ambulance Service ("NAS") is the first and only fully professional, non-profit, pre-hospital emergency medicine provider in Nepal. It's also the only ambulance service that operates a 3 digit, toll-free phone number and which screens incoming calls from a telephone dispatch centre.

Prior to NAS being set up in April 2011, victims of trauma or medical emergencies could only be transported to hospital either by taxi or private vehicle, with no medical care en route. Many patients suffered grievous complications or died as a result.

NAS is not supported by the Government of Nepal and so is dependent on private funding: 80% of its annual budget (which is just under £50,000) comes from private donors and 20% comes from fees charged to patients. NAS responds to call-outs regardless of patients' ability to pay and seeks funding to cover the costs of those patients who cannot afford its fee.

Friends of NAS plays a crucial role in providing logistical, training and financial support to NAS and is currently helping NAS to expand across Nepal. To do this, it really needs your help.
