Story
For 7 days I will be living without any running water. This includes: taps, showers, baths and.....toilets.....yes I will be smelly.
Currently, 2.4 billion people do not have a clean, safe and hygienic place to go to the toilet. Of this, 1 billion people simply use bushes and openly defecate. Lack of sanitation and proper ways of disposing human waste creates huge health problems and causes many to die as waterborne diseases are easily spread.
The ToiletTwinning foundation helps provide the poorest communities with a first toilet, clean water and education on hygiene. Having a toilet is literally a life saver! Can you imagine not having a toilet to go to? What would you do?
So what I'm going to do:
On average most people in the UK use at least 100 Litres of running water a day...but I'm going to limit myself to just 2 Litres of bottled water a day for 6 days straight. I will have to use this for:
- brushing my teeth
- washing my hands
- showering
- cooking
- drinking
- washing up
- and instead of using a toilet I will be using a bucket in the garden...yum
To make sure I am drinking enough I am allowing myself to drink purchased drinks that aren't water e.g. orange juice, and the majority of the 2 L will probably be used for washing.
I can't imagine what it must be like for people who have to go outside to an open space every day to go to the toilet, without any privacy or sanitation. So please help me give to a charity that changes the lives of communities by giving them basic human requirements.
