Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So Everest Basecamp, what was I thinking right...

Having lost two of the most special people in my life in recent years in my Nan (Brigid) and most recently my Cousin (Tony).

I have set myself the daunting task of completing Everest Basecamp from September 19th to October 6th 2016.

As part of the preparation for this task I have had to:

  • Cut down on Alcohol (as much as possible)
  • Eat cleaner (Who would have thought Avocado's could become such an important part of my life)
  • Shaving my prized Bieber Fro (Currently attempting to look like an Irish Nick Jonas with this buzzcut)
  • Roaming the streets with my altitude mask looking like a weedier Bane ('Dark Knight Rises' for those of you that aren't Batman fans)
  • And most recently beginning to tackle my fear of heights (jumping from waterfalls in Greece will do that)

As you can imagine my commitment to this task does not match the hard work and dedication that The Irish Heart Foundation do day in day out but if you could donate as little or as much you can afford in aid of this good cause I would be eternally grateful;

Did you know?

Heart disease - Ireland's No.1 Killer
Approximately 10,000 people die each year from cardiovascular disease (CVD) - including coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and other circulatory diseases. CVD is the most common cause of death in Ireland, accounting for 32% of all deaths. The largest number of these deaths relate to CHD - mainly heart attack - at 5,000.

Stroke
Each year, approximately 10,000 Irish people have a stroke and around 2,000 die – more deaths than breast cancer, prostate cancer and bowel cancer combined. An estimated 30,000 people are living in the community with disabilities as a result of a stroke. This makes stroke the third biggest cause of death in Ireland and the biggest cause of acquired disability.

The Irish Heart Foundation:

  • Provides information on heart health to the public and media
  • Supports patients in managing heart disease and stroke
  • Provides heart health programmes in schools and workplaces
  • Co-ordinates the training of medics and the public in emergency lifesaving skills (CPR)
  • Supports research, education and development in the medical profession
  • Advocates better patient treatment and services
