Hello,
My name is Jacqui, I hope you will support me with this great fund raising page.
When I was in my early 20's, I had a reading from a fortune teller, we had a girls night in, and thought at the time it was a fun thing to do!!!???? Unfortuntately I was told when I was 40 I would get breast cancer, but would get over it, everybody says they never tell you bad things, but hey, I was told this. So, for the last 24 years I have been attending the charity run breast screening unit at Southend, called the Lady McAdden's Breast Screening Unit, although it is very expensive to to perform screening, they only ever ask for a donation.
In January this year I had my regular mammogram, and two weeks later had a recall, which then resulted in further tests, and then by the end of February I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Since then, I have now had two operations, four months down the line, and starting my chemotherapy on the 11th July, so I would have loved to have done this run with my husband, but due to further treatments I cannot. So, my husband Dean is running the National Lottery Anniversary Run at the Olympic Stadium on behalf of me, and hoping to raise money for the screening unit.
He used to participate in alot of sport, but unfortunately after numerous operations on his tendons had to give up at the age of 28. So, now, 46 years old he is running again, something he thought he would never do!
I will be supporting him in the crowd on that day, and hope we can raise as much money as possible for this great charity, as I consider finding this at my age they have saved my life!
The picture of me with the Team GB flags was taken last year at the Olympics, it will be good to get back to the stadium, it will definitely be inspiring!
This is the stepping stone to more fund raising events for this unit we will participating in next year ..........
Love Jacqui xx
HOT NEWS!!
Yesterday, (16th July), we were invited by the BBC to film a piece to be featured during the Live Lottery Draw Show, this Saturday night (20th July) on BBC1 at 8.20 pm telling our inspirational story as to why Dean is running in the National Lottery 5 Mile Run. I will be adding some pictures taken during filming, but please make sure you watch or set your machines to record on Saturday night, and remember Dean is running the next day!
2014 UPDATE!!
So, nearly a year on, and I have finished all my six chemotherapy treatments and then 3 weeks of radiotherapy treatments. I had my first mammogram last month in April, and all was good, so now I am re-building, onwards and upwards as they say.
To keep the motivation, Dean is running again in July at 'The National Lottery Newham Anniversary 5 Mile Run', this year in the grounds of the stadium, and we are both really looking forward to it. He has already started his training, and things are going well.
He will be running for the Lady McAdden Breast Screening Unit again, as for obvious reasons we have firm connections with them, so please if you can possibly spare some money, all donations will be gladly appreciated, thank you.
2015 UPDATE!!
So, here we are again, another year on, all has been very good, had my yearly mammogram in April just gone, all was good, but later in the month I was diagnosed with Diabetes. I tried to sort it out with diet and lifestyle change as the doctors suggested, but my body wasn't having any of it, so now I am on medication, but being closely monitored as my sugar levels are still not controlled.
Dean has been training, he started earlier this year as they have upped the distance from 5 miles to 6 miles (10K)! His training is going well, and we are both looking forward to going back to the stadium next month.
He will be running for the Lady McAdden Breast Screening Unit in Southend again, so please if you can spare some money, all donations will be gladly appreciated, thank you in advance, Jacqui.
Watch this space, as only yesterday we heard from Run Communications, asking about Dean's story and asking to speak with him next week, so keep checking in to see what occurs from this !
2016 UPDATE!!
Three years on and I am keeping myself busy and fit with lots of walking.
My diabetes was diagnosed as type one last year, and I am coping very well.
I have always supported ladies at my bra group at the Nuffield in Brentwood, and today a very good friend, Elaine hosted a coffee morning party at her home and and a great amount was raised which she has kindly said she will donate to Lady McAdden through this just giving page.
Michelle helped me today, and later on in the year myself and her will host a coffee morning for the same, Big Bust Brew. More details to follow .......
Michelle has been a great friend, and always very supportive.
This year is a special year for the Lady McAdden Unit, as it is their 40th Anniversary, so lots going on and as I said previously Dean is competing in a Triathlon in London on 7th August with his nephew Graeme, who are supporting each other in training.
I constantly joke with Dean - 'All The Gear and No Idea'!
We appreciate all donations, thank you Jacqui & Dean x
