We raise funds for autism counselling to improve mental health for autistics

Story

I have decided to do a bit of fundraising alongside with what is to be my first running event of this magnitude. I started training in February and have since progressed from running 5 miles to double that, through a not so little effort on my part.

When I was a teenager, around thirteen years old, I was told that I had asperger's syndrome. It is my belief that without the support I received from certain individuals, and organisations like Action for aspergers, I wouldn't be the person I am today. It isn't much, but i'm hoping my actions through this might help someone else who is going through something similar to what I did back when.

My thanks for your time,

James

Action for Asperger's (AfA) provides a bespoke counselling service for lives that have become adversely affected by the experience of Asperger's syndrome (autism). AfA also provides a diagnostic service, and holds regular social/educational events for its clientele. AfA works not only for the person aged 3-100 who has autism, but also for close family members also. All workers within the AfA organisation are volunteers. AfA is a donation-led service that does not receive any funding from the Government or Lottery. AfA has a client list that is international thanks to Skype/Facetime technology that allows us to counsel those who live far away. AfA is a unique charity in terms of that which it offers.
