Story
As everyone who knows me knows, I am in pain everyday of my life. Not a bit of pain, not an annoying little pain, but serious disabling pain.
My pain got really serious after an operation on my chest in August 2012. Since then everyday and night I am in pain that at lowest is a 6/10 and at worst.......well, it's "I don't want to be here anymore" bad.
The thing is that lots of other people have chronic pain as well. I want to be a part of stopping that; or at least raising awareness. Before my pain began I simply didn't know you could be in serous pain non stop.
Many people don't want to give to a charity that is non life threatening. Let me be very clear.........chronic pain kills. Many through other complications that come alongside the pain, many many through suicide, and many due to the lifestyle that pain sadly brings.
Sadly when it comes to chronic pain, pain killers don't work. My pain is neuropathic and at the time of my writing there are no drugs that successfully treat neuropathic pain for 100% of people. Many (myself included) have zero response to pain killers.
I am unable to work and my quality of life since 2012 has been terrible. So what can I do to try and make little difference? Well, something that doesn't involve moving much?!! So growing an epic beard it is!!!
I last shaved (clean and fully) on 1/12/15. I now intend to not shave at all until the 1st of January 2017.
All proceeds from this will go to the 'Pain relief foundation'. A genuinely awesome charity that helps those with chronic pain live with hope to an end to their suffering.
I know that loads of people do stuff for charity, some events last seconds, some days, weeks or months. But this is different. You are not just sponsoring me to grow a beard for a year, but the fact that every hour of everyday of that year I will be in severe debilitating pain. There is no off switch, and I can't opt out. It is an endurance event that really is quite phenomenal.
So please please please sponsor me!!
I will post photos on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Many thanks, Jack!!
