Story

My Personal Story… well what can I say? 6 years in the making perhaps? One failure after the next? Well no more!

In the beginning:

It all began when I started working in a local office in 2007. Before this time I was a manual worker, therefore my energy requirements were much higher. Then, as what most people will attest to, the sedentary lifestyle of an office worker began taking its toll! Diet after diet, fad after fad, I found it increasingly difficult to maintain my weight.

What frustrated me more is that when came to my career and work ethic my determination and drive to get things done has always come so easy. Even the biggest challenges I was able to overcome. I was constantly asking myself why I could not just transpose my behavioural pattern from my work ethic to my personal life? For years the missing link eluded me, I could get up to get into work even if I were tired or couldn’t be bothered.

As soon as it was related to something else I failed. I just couldn’t understand why. I knew that if I could just start and maintain a good pattern of success for my weight loss goals, I would soon build up speed and the inertia would take over and things would become easier much like it had within my work life.

7 years and 8 stone later:

After reality check of which I am not going to bore you with now, I was definitely in need of a change!

The eureka moment came when I began reading ‘Body for Life’ a book which I have had for years and only read once! It was during reading this book that I realised what the missing link was, Personal Accountability! It was like a black cloud had lifted and excitement quickly took its place.

The reason why I was driven at work, got up early mornings, stayed late is because I had someone relying on me to get the job done! Whereas if I didn’t get out of bed to go to the gym or remained strict on a healthy eating plan, no one else but me was relying on my actions.

It is with this realisation that ideas began flooding into my head. Everything was soon beginning to seem possible, real and tangible!

Now:

I am at a point and have crossed the abyss into what seems like a whole new world where everything seems possible and there is no place for despair or helplessness.

Doing this 12 week challenge is a gruelling mind and body transformation. I am doing this for what I consider to be an excellent and very worthwhile charity! Now that I have found my missing link I not only have a reason to follow this challenge through to the end, but I also have people relying on my actions, my resolve and my mental strength to get through this journey.

My Challenge:

You can find out more about this challenge by going to www.bodyforlife.com

Because the guiding principle in this challenge is the building of lean body mass and loosing body fat, weight cannot therefore be an accurate measure for success. Therefore I will be doing it solely on body fat%.  After research, an average contender for this challenge will loose around 10% body fat. I am aiming for 15% that is my measure for success.

My aim is to raise at least £500 for the Befriending Group which will keep me motivated and help a very worthwhile charity!

I will also be providing updates on www.jamiestuartblog.tumblr.com
