Jane's London Marathon Challenge
Fundraising for Children First Derby
Story
I started running 5 years ago to get healthy. I've done quite a few 5k and 10k runs so the next step was to do a marathon. A half marathon would have been an achievement but I wanted a real challenge so I decided on a full marathon. And if you're going to do a marathon why not do the biggest and best, the London marathon.
Having been lucky enough to get a place in the London marathon through the ballot I decided to raise money for a local charity.
Before my Mother-in-law, died she was heavily involved with Children First in Derby. So I decided that I would dedicate my run to her and all the proceeds raised would go to the Children First Charity.
The aim of this local Charity is to relieve the distress and suffering experienced by families and children. In particular, those who have suffered from, or are likely to suffer from, violence or maltreatment in their homes.
I have created a Plan that I'm sticking to. It has really been hard sometimes with the cold and wet evenings and the frosty mornings. It's tough to keep up with the Plan but I know I need to do it - I will not be fast but I will not be defeated!
