Story
I'm an outdoorsy person blessed by living close to the stunning Northumberland coast. I spend lots of time on the beach either running or walking with my dog or swimming with friends in the North Sea.
As a keen open water swimmer I get the chance to swim along side beautiful curious intelligent marine mammals, usually seals, occasionally porpoises and dolphins
Unfortunately, I also come across underweight or poorly seal pups who have been separated from their mother and deemed to perish - until I discovered the British Divers Marine life rescue and trained up as a marine mammal medic
As a volunteer medic I have the skills to respond to marine mammal emergencies - from individual or mass strandings of porpoise, dolphin, whale or seal - to being part of a national response to a widespread disease outbreak
A few pounds from you can help buy special milk and fish needed to nourish the small seals which need a thick layer of insulating blubber before they can be released.
With your kind donations we can purchase equipment to deal with strandings, oil spills and fishing gear entanglements. This equipment includes rescue boats, whale and dolphin pontoon sets, whale disentanglement kit and essential medic kit & supplies
On 1 Feb 2014, I'm taking part in the Chillswim in lake Windemere. I won't have a wetsuit and I will be swimming in water below 5'c - I have swum in the North Sea every week, sometimes up to 6 times a week right through the winter to acclimatise and be able to take part in this cold water endurance event
Please spare a few pounds to help our marine mammals and support this worthy cause xxxxx
