Story
So, we're finally doing the deed and getting hitched. And we've decided that rather than buying us something that we don't particularly need, your money would be put to better use by donating to a charity that is close to both our hearts, The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
Sophie Lancaster was brutally attacked, along with her boyfriend Robert Maltby in Bacup, Lancashire in 2007.
As a result of her severe head injuries Sophie went into a coma, and never regained consciousness. She died thirteen days later. The police said the attack may have been provoked by the couple's wearing of gothic fashion and being members of the goth subculture.
Following this horrific event Sophie's family wanted to ensure a lasting legacy to their beautiful, bright creative daughter and so The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established and it became a registered charity in 2009.
The aims and objectives of the Charity are as follows
1/ To create a lasting legacy to Sophie.
2/ To provide educational group-works that will challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures.
3/ To campaign to have the UK Hate Crime legislation extended to include people from “alternative subcultures” or “Lifestyle and Dress”
