Story
Janet Stirling Memorial Appeal
24 February 1950 – 28 February 2012
Jan Stirling was a valued member of Surrey Children’s Service for more than 20 years, working with secondary, primary and nursery schools throughout Surrey. Just as she retired, hoping to enjoy her hard-earned leisure time, Jan died – too early – of cancer. She always gave her heart and soul unreservedly to her work for Surrey: leading, teaching and delivering training as part of her work for the service that supports ethnic and language minority children. Jan had a passionate interest in other cultures, dedicating her time and efforts to a variety of community support initiatives, including the Explore Project which brought together mothers and children from different cultural backgrounds.
Family, friends and colleagues who were close to Jan are supporting an educational project for mothers and young children in Kabubbu, Uganda. The project will provide resources and support for parents and young children to promote learning through play. This would be a practical and wonderful way to honour Jan’s memory as Early Years was an area of expertise (among so many!) that was particularly close to Jan’s heart. The project is run by the Quicken Trust which is an established and reliable charity supporting very needy families to improve education and daily life. The Trust focuses on assisting the community of Kabubbu, “The Forgotten People”, in their search for a way out of poverty, destitution, death and despair to self-determination and hope for their future. The Trust guarantees that your donation is used in full in Kabubbu.
Please give generously in memory of Jan, a wonderful friend and colleague, through www.justgiving.com/Janet-Stirling-Memorial-Appeal or by cheque to the Quicken Trust, stating it is for the Janet Stirling Memorial Appeal.
Please do remember to tick the Gift Aid box as this ensures 28p in the £1 is added to support the Quicken Trust.
Thank you on behalf of those who care about Jan. We can’t send you our personal thanks but do know that your kindness is very much appreciated. Rob and Tamsin Stirling, Julia Al-Jawad, Jean Somerville, Judy Shepherd, Judith Tiller, Jane Bond, Janice Taylor, Fiona Blackburn, Tricia Price, Marion Gathern, Satpal Luthra and Tina Beale.
