Story
Thank you for visiting our page! We are both very excited for our three week EMS placement this June in Sri Lanka with the Dogstar Foundation.
Dogstar is a non-profit animal charity that provides free sterilizations, vaccinations, and medical treatments to companion animals and the massive street dog and cat population in rural Sri Lanka through mobile and fixed clinics. Dogstar is actively reducing the street animal population through their sterilization clinics and by educating the local communities on the benefits of spaying and neutering. Rabies is a serious public health concern in Sri Lanka and Dogstar is tackling this issue by providing free Rabies vaccinations and information for prevention to the public.
Volunteering with Dogstar will give us the opportunity to improve our practical skills and apply what we have learned so far in vet school while working with an extremely important organization. Recently the Sri Lankan government nearly approved a nationwide dog cull because of the negative impact Rabies is having on human health and the overpopulation problem but it was called off thanks to numerous animal welfare organizations and charities. This issue makes the work done by Dogstar even more important because it shows the government that there are other ways to tackle these problems.
Dogstar operates solely on donations to care for the animals of Sri Lanka. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated. All of the money donated will go directly to Dogstar to help run the foundation, such as providing medications, surgical supplies, equipment, and give us a place to stay at the clinic! This placement is sure to be an amazing experience. Thank you so much for reading our story and for your help!
