Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Isaac's House Charity provide homes for orphaned children in Uganda. Currently they support thirty children, ensuring they grow up in a caring family environment with a safe and stable place to live, regular nutritional meals, clothing, access to healthcare and education and most of all, a place to call home. In addition as much assistance as possible is also given to those in real need in the local community.

In May 2015 I volunteered on a Weightmans staff trip to Isaac's House in Uganda. It was an amazing and humbling experience for me and so much so that I am going back again this year on 7 May for a week.   One of the annual challenges for Isaac's House is to continue to raise sufficient funds to send the children to decent schools so that they can get jobs and make a stable, self sufficient life for themselves and their own families when they grow up and also to help their local community.  The children are really fabulous - funny, friendly and curious, and genuinely grateful for what the money raised in the UK has done and is doing for them.

Last year I raised £980 in sponsorship money for the charity by my challenges of my first ever abseil down a 200ft wall of the Royal Liverpool Hospital and my first 10k race in 20 years.  I am pleased to say that I enjoyed the abseil and I am still running on a weekly basis with the friends I made during my training.

This year I thought I should set a cycling challenge.  I used to cycle a bit for my own enjoyment many years ago but that also fell by the wayside in a busy life. So, I have bought a new drop handle road bike and signed up the for 50 mile Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool road cycle on 3 July.  I am saddle sore and my shoulders ache but I am sure I will get into it soon and hope that I will re-discover the joy of road cycling as well as getting fitter.  I'm looking forward to cycling through the Mersey Tunnel on the event making a change from driving through by car as I do on working days.

I would be really grateful if you would sponsor my challenge and forthcoming volunteering at the Isaacs House Orphanage.  I have seen from first hand that your donation will make a big difference.  Please see the photos below for a small taste of what happens on our volunteer trips.
