People that know me will know that I probably love dogs more than humans.  I feel very strongly about dog welfare and feel that we should look after "Mans best friend".  They aren't given this name without good reason.

The biggest upset in my live is hearing about cruelty to dogs.  I feel passionately against any neglect to dogs as they are fundamentally loyal and loving creatures.

I am obsessed with puppy farming and the treatment of these dogs.  I posted something to my Facebook page a few weeks ago describing the life of the breeding dog:

"This is how I live, day in day out, litter after litter, I have never played with a ball, I have never been cuddled, My paws have never touched grass, I have never seen the sky, My pen smells, I have no warm bedding, I am often un-well but no one cares, I have never been loved, I will die here and I am scared, I have no name"

Puppy farmers can't understand the fuss, they will say "This isn't cruel - she knows no different".  But if they really believed that they would allow visitors to their farms. They exploit dogs for profit and the dogs live a miserable life and only a small minority are rescued.

My first dog was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who I got from a rescue which was later closed down due to bad conditions.  Oscar was 4 years old, terrified of other dogs yet was kept in a cage next to other dogs for 6 weeks.  When he came to us he was underweight, was definitely having a bad hair day and he was clearly unsure and frightened.  He was a great dog but was obviously a result of overbreeding and quickly started to have issues because of this.  Problems with his joints and heart disease.  I was ignorant at the time and should have known by the handwritten pedigree certificate that he hadn't been breed by a reputable breeder.  Not that this would have stopped me getting him, all dogs need good homes.

I now have a cocker called Sidney who came to me at 11 months (his third owner already).  It took him a while to settle down but he is a lucky dog as he could very easily have been sold to the previous enquiry to us who didn't even want to see the dog as long as he wasn't neutered they were happy to have him.  "I will have him couriered to us"!!!!!! Guess where he would have ended up.

You may all feel that giving up sweet things is lame but CASSR (Cocker and Springer Spaniel Rescue) isn't.

I wanted to give up something I like and would miss and decided that the thing I like the most is chocolate.  I also am like a lot of women and love anything sweet therefore there will be no cake to accompany my coffee in costa, no biscuits with my tea, no pud after my sunday lunch and no chocolate or sweets for 100 days.

I wish it was something as impressive as running the London marathon, climbing the three peaks etc but I am allergic to exercise and I wouldn't survive it! Ha! Ha!

I would be really grateful for the support and can assure you all that my conscience would not allow me to break this promise if people donate.

If you can even spare a pound it would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Jayne
