Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for the Rory Peck Trust. The charity supports media freelancers, in some of the most dangerous parts of the world, who work with broadcasters to bring the news to our living rooms – freelance cameramen and women, translators, and fixers. Few of them have any financial backing, should they be injured, wounded or worse.
The Rory Peck Trust does that and much more, supporting freelancers and their families financially in times of need, helping replace damaged equipment and running training schemes for those working in high risk areas.
I have spent the past 20 years working with BBC Foreign News, working in some of the most pleasant and unpleasant of circumstances. No matter how well resourced the broadcaster, little can be achieved working in tough conditions without the knowledge, commitment and bravery of freelancers.
I wanted to mark my leaving the BBC by doing something to support these incredible people. On June 22nd, I'm starting to walk the UK's longest National Trail, the South West Coast Path, not all in one go but in stages, over the next few months.
Yes, it will be an arduous pleasure, but I also want to raise cash for
the Rory Peck Trust, to pay something back to media freelancers working for all
broadcasters, in some of the most dangerous parts of the world.
