Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In September this year, I will be going on a challenging charity gap year with BMS World Mission on the Action Teams programme. This will involve a months training in September, followed by 6 months charity work out in Nepal! I will be venturing out to Nepal as part of an action team of 4 girls where I will be involved in 2 main projects.
The first project I will be involved with is 'Beauty for Ashes'. This is a Christian organisation for women rescued from sex slavery and other vulnerable situations. It provides training, skills and employment for the women, so they can support themselves and their families after emotional recovery. The aim is to break the cycle of poverty that fuels human trafficking, providing rescued women with a stable line of work. For more information I really recommend their website (http://www.beautyforashesintl.com/wordpress/about-2/). Another project I will be involved with is the ABBS Special Needs School supporting and encouraging the staff and children, as well as training local Nepali teachers. I may also be involved in volunteering at Anandaban Leprosy Hospital, leading craft sessions with patients, and admin work to support hospital staff.
After 6 months in Nepal I will be going on a 2 month tour in the UK, visiting churches, schools and all sorts of places (including Fleet!) telling people about what I have been involved in abroad.
I will be doing lots of different fundraising events including the Three Peaks Challenge in July, which I will be doing with my Dad. This is the challenge to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon) all in 24 hours! This includes travel, climb and descent all in the time limit. It certainly will be a challenge!
I am super excited to experience what, I think, will be a life changing year of mission. For a long time I have wanted to serve those in real need in a less developed country as this is something very important to me and what I believe in as a Christian. I believe God wants us to serve him through serving all people around us. If you feel you can donate, to what I believe is a worthy cause, then I would greatly appreciate it! Many thanks! :D
I will be keeping a blog on the BMS website throughout the year to keep people up to date with what I've been doing. This will be available here from September: www.actionteamblogs.org .
