Story
Thank you for supporting Jenson James’ fundraising page
Our handsome little man was born on 23rd August 2013 weighing 3.07 kg (6lb 6oz) at 13.40. He was perfect, plump little lips, chubby cheeks and a good set of lungs! Words cannot express the overwhelming love Ben and I felt at that moment when we heard him cry. After 2 days in hospital, we went home, car seat in place and ‘baby on board’ sign up. We were so proud of our amazing little boy, here safe and sound. He made us a very happy family.
However on 13th September Jenson just wasn’t himself, so Ben and I took him to A&E. As we sat in the waiting room we could see our little man slowly deteriorate. The staff at Enfield hospital swiftly worked on Jenson to stabilise him, taking over his breathing and putting our worries at ease the best they could.
We were advised that we were going to be transferred to an intensive care unit by the CATS (Children’s Acute Transport Service) team. We were taken to Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary's Hospital. Where we were told that Jenson had contracted the life threating infection Group B streptococcus (GBS), which had developed into bacterial Meningitis. Despite the amazing efforts of the staff and the incredible strength and fight of our little boy the infection was too strong. Jenson James passed away with his mummy and daddy lying with him and telling him they loved him, just before 7am on the 18th September 2013.
As his parents we want to give something back to the amazing team on the PICU ward who worked so incredibly hard, day and night, for 5 days to save our little boy. This ward wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the support of the charity COSMIC (Children of St Mary's Intensive Care), as the NHS do not have the money to support such specialized units. Your kind donations to COSMIC will go towards the life-saving equipment on the PICU ward, as well as funding research into the causes, effects and treatment of life-threatening childhood diseases, and providing free accommodation within a 5 minute walk of the hospital to the parents whose children are in intensive care. Without the fundraising efforts of COSMIC, many more children would pass away each year.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Cosmic (Children Of St Mary's Intensive Care) will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you. We can not tell you the numbness, disbelief and pain that we are feeling loosing our little man Jenson, so quickly, but if loosing JJ highlights to other people the incredible work the PICU team do and if we are able to raise some money to help and support COSMIC then it will lighten our hearts slightly knowing that we are helping children to go home.
Jenson James was 27 days old when he passed away.
