Thank you for visiting my JustGiving Page in memory of my son Ethan James Dix. A lot of my friends and family know what we have been through but for those of you that dont I have written a small piece of our story here...
I had a normal healthy pregnancy. Ethan was born on the 20th may 2014 via c section, 2 days after Ethan was born he became severely ill, before i knew it my baby was on a life support machine fighting for his life. Ethan was diagnosed with a metabolic condition called Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency, this condition affects approx 1 in 80,000 and is usually genetic however in Ethans case his condition was not genetic, this we were told was even more rare to find. Babies usually show signs of lethargy, poor feeding, increased heart rate & respiratory rate and seizures which if not caught soon enough can lead to a coma then death. We managed to get Ethan to the hospital very quickly and in time before he went in to the coma stage. He battled so hard in the first 3 weeks of his life to ensure we had some special memories that we could cherish forever, however after 10 months of battling to live with this life threatening condition Ethan gave us signs that he wasn't able to carry on. Ethan passed away peacefully in my arms on the 11th March 2015. Even though i only had 10 months with my little boy that means more to me than anything. I am so grateful to Ethan for giving me strength and teaching me how to be a mummy. He has inspired so many people including nursing staff and consultants. I hope they will learn from Ethan and use their knowledge to treat other children with these rare conditions.
I am going to be doing the London marathon for Ethan and for the charity Climb. Without this charity children with these rare metabolic diseases like Ethan would not be able to be diagnosed properly and families would not have the support that is so desperately needed. If you’d like to make a donation to Children Living with Inherited Metabolic Diseases I’d be very grateful, as it will help them continue their amazing work. Thank you, Jessica x
