Story
This year I am in TY and taking some time out to raise money for a worthy cause and the charity I have chosen is Orbis Ireland who help fight blindness in Ethiopia.
We are travelling to Addis Ababa in November to take part in the Great Ethiopian 10 km run to promote awareness for the charity. We are paying all of our own costs and we need to raise funds to pay for these essential surgeries.
Trachoma is a very painful and blinding disease which Orbis are working hard to eliminate. Unbelievably, six euro is all it costs for a sight-saving operation, this is only the cost of two takeaway coffees for my Mum !
Southern Ethiopia is very poor and is badly affected by avoidable blindness. After the run in Addis Ababa on Nov 20th we will travel south to visit schools and clinics where the surgery takes place. We hope to meet people whose lives have been changed by this surgery.
Orbis train eye care workers on-board the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital and also in local hospitals.
Any donation at all is most welcome - please help the children to get their sight back .
We look forward to telling you all what we achieved at the end of November !
Many thanks, Ben and Jill Victory.
