Hiya!

I love games, board games, card games, computer games, whatever - just games! So does my colleague Shannon, when we we're thinking of ways to raise money for Westbrook it was an easy choice!

Funny thing about games... games express some of the best bit of being human; friendship, joy, skill, deftness, conversation - to name but a few. The act of playing is intrinsic to the development of young people and animals alike. It allows for dialogue, analysis, appropriate risk taking, strategy, subterfuge and co-operation all within a safe, moderated environment.

It's funny to think that the way we do education now is so much about attainment and standardised tests and that playing and fun are so much ignored when they are clearly so important!

Thank heavens for places like Westbrook (www.westbrookcentre.org.uk), where kids can come and have fun, play, and take appropriate risks, learn and grow.
