My First Gig after Bells Palsy, 5 October 2016

Story

Dear Friends,
My first pubic performance in 18 months will be at Halstead Village Hall, Kent on the 5th Oct. This will be a fundraising event for the amazing Royal Society of Musicians. This is a fantastic society whose aim is to provide immediate financial assistance to musicians unable to work due to accident, illness or old age.

I decided to set up this page as there may be some people who are unable to come to my gig but who would  like to support this unique society. As some of you already know, on the 15th May 2013 I awoke with a  condition called Bells Palsy. This bazar illness happens when the 7th cranial nerve ceases to work properly and you loose control of all the muscles on one side of your face. This meant I was unable to get a note out of my saxophone for over 14 months. As a self employed musician and teacher  this had a big impact on my income. But what made it worse was that no one  could predict how long my recovery would be or even if I would be able to play again. Fortunately a friend contacted The Royal Society on my behalf and they were an enormous help throughout. I'm so grateful to them as it was more than financial, they took away a lot of stress and enabled me to focus my energy on getting better.

For more information on the great work they do please see www.royalsocietyofmusicians.co.uk. I'm so glad that there is this amazing society and I hope it will be able to continue to help and support vulnerable musicians.

Thanks for taking time to visit my Justgiving page.

All the best, Jo xxx
