We raise funds for veterinary treatment to improve care of street dogs in Sri Lanka

Story

Hey everyone!

Firstly thank you for taking the time to visit this page. I am raising money for WECare Worldwide (http://wecareworldwide.org.uk/). WEcare is a small charity, founded by Janey Lowes of Westway Veterinary group, tackling an incredibly large and important job in south Sri Lanka. They aim to better the lives of animals, reduce the incidence of rabies and change attitudes towards animal welfare through three main strategies:

  1. Free veterinary care for sick and injured animals: dog fight and road traffic accident injuries are overwhelmingly common, as is extensive and debilitating skin disease.
  2. Catch, neuter, vaccinate, release drives: firstly to reduce the roaming dog population and numbers of animals dumped at a very young age. Secondly CNVR forms the back bone of striving to eradicate rabies from the island.
  3. Education: Education of the community, local vets and vet techs is key to making a sustainable improvement in animal health and welfare in the area.

... A brief summary! Check out their website for more details http://wecareworldwide.org.uk/

As some of you may know, I am a recently graduated (2015) vet, working in lovely Shropshire. I am heading out to Sri Lanka this autumn to volunteer my veterinary skills.. and am doing various muddy / sweaty events to raise some much needed funds.... these include:

  •  rounds 2, 3 and 4 of the Shropshire mudrun series.. 2 and 3 done, 4 left to go!
  • Shrewsbury Triathlon - with a little help from my friends..
  • Any other suggestions welcome #challengeaccepted

WECare have achieved so much already - over 1500 dogs vaccinated against rabies, over 1500 dogs and cats neutered and almost 1000 sick animals treated - FOR FREE. In order to do more they need your help. PLEASE PLEASE donate if you are able to and would like to, and share this page amongst family, friends and work colleagues.

THANK YOU for taking the time to read,

Love Jo xx

P.S. 100% of the money donated will go straight to WECare Worldwide to help our four (and some now three) legged friends. My personal costs are self funded.

P.P.S. If anyone knows of a spare / second hand microscope of semi decent quality.. PM me!

"WECare are going to save the world, one animal at a time!" Janey Lowes, very optimistic founding member of WECare Worldwide. We dream of providing healthcare for all animals in desperate need of help around the world. Yes, we know it's a big dream, but anything is possible when we all come together! WECare Worldwide is an organisation set up by Westway Veterinary Group, the largest veterinary practice in the North of England. Ultimately, WECare Worldwide plan to extend veterinary services around the globe but initially will be concentrating on tacking the issues with the street dog population in Sri Lanka. It is estimated that there are up to 3 million street dogs in Sri Lanka. WECare Worldwide are in the process of carrying out a 5 year plan in which we will look to help eliminate rabies in the country and also reduce the numbers of unwanted street dogs. We will also treat any sick or injured street dogs.
