Around 10 years ago my beautiful son Louis was diagnosed with autism, he was 2 years old. The diagnosis answered a lot of questions for me as to why Louis was so different from his peers but at the same time I entered a world of disability and special needs that I knew nothing about. 10 years ago Louis and I were the only family I knew of affected by autism, support after diagnosis was non-existent and a condition which can best be described as a social disability left us at times rather helpless.

10 years on, autism awareness has come on leaps and bounds thanks to charities like the North east Autism Society - they are there to provide support and encouragement for children like Louis and their families.

I need no other inspiration to get to the finish line than that of my amazing boy. The run will be a big challenge for me, but its a few hours of 1 day of 1 year... Louis overcomes more challenges in a few hours of every day of every year simply by living with autism - he is the most incredible person I have ever met and will ever meet.

To all those who have taken the time and effort to get to know Louis you will never know how much it is appreciated by both of us....and once he lets you into his world it really is a fun, entertaining, and often fact- filled world to be! Thank you!

Also a special mention to Alfred and Lola - living with autism has often meant they too have had to miss out on certain things and often had to leave the party early - but for two so young their love and support of their big brother is incredible - thank you!
