Story

We are raising money for the Douglas Bader Foundation in memory of Anthony Calvey.

Joanna, Edward, Karen, Mark, Stephen, Keith & Sarah are cycling 62 miles between Reading in Berkshire and Watton at Stone, Hertfordshire on Saturday 10th September.

Please support us by sponsoring us to complete this feat! Most of us have never cycled this far before and it will take us a whole day to complete.

Anthony lost his leg when he was just 18 but he received funding to learn to fly and developed a love of flying and aerobatics. He co-owned a bi-plane and took many of his friends and relatives for flights - thoroughly enjoying terrifying them with loop-the-loops, barrel rolls and dives. The loss of his leg did not stop Anthony from living a full, exciting life - he surfed, raced motor bikes, pot holed, parachuted and wing walked. Riding his Ducati and flying his Stampe were Anthony's favourite activities and there are many of us who can't hear a small plane flying overhead without thinking of Anthony.

The Douglas Bader Foundation is a small charity offering many opportunities for people affected by limb loss and other disabilities and funds grants to enable individuals to participate in sports, learn to fly or get other educational opportunities as well as support.

They also do a lot of work to inspire children who have lost limbs such as young aviator days (when the children are taken up in light aircraft) and adventure weekends.

We have chosen to support the Douglas Bader Foundation to help others to realise their potential and find their passion as Anthony did.

The Douglas Bader Foundation will let us know what we have funded.
