Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I started road biking 4 years ago.  I used to commute to work about 3 times a week in London on a hybrid bike, but that was about it for my adult biking talents.  Then my great friend here in California, Brooke, asked me to join her in riding 65 miles in an event in Santa Rosa.  I borrowed a bike, fell off a few times learning those darn clip in pedals, then set about training for the Gran Fondo.   Well, that seemed far enough!  Now I've been training for a few months, I'm up to a longest ride of 100 miles, but I couldn't wait to get off the bike after that, so repeating that 7 days in a row seems pretty impossible right now.  Still, there's a few more months of training to go!

Why am I doing this?  Well, for years working at Cancer Research UK, I watched so many dedicated people complete huge personal challenges in aid of a charity dear to their heart.  Treks, 5k runs, marathons, cycle rides,..overcoming self doubt, pain, injury and fear and challenging themselves to achieve great things, helping so many others along the way.  It was always so inspiring to be at the finish line of the London Marathon, welcoming back those exhausted runners with huge smiles on their faces, knowing what they had achieved for themselves and others.  Now it's my turn.  Darn it.  At least I managed to put it off until 43 years of age.

One visit to the Chamonix Venice Facebook page and you'll see what a ridiculous cycle ride this is.  640 miles in 8 days, and a whole lot of steep hills in between.  But I'm determined to be as ready as I can be and will cycle till I can turn those pedals no more.

Please. please, encourage me with your donations.  Kennedy's Disease really needs your support - they are a small charity but have a great research program in place at University College in London.  My brother Andrew (who is to blame for all this cycling nonsense) is a trustee, and I'm so happy to be raising money for them.    Your support is really appreciated, both for me personally and all those affected by Kennedy's Disease.
