Story
On Saturday 31st August My husband (Chris Lister) along with one of his friends (Shaun Atkinson) will be taking part in the St Begas Ultra Trail Marathon. This is a point to point 35 mile race alongside three beautiful lakes, two magnificent valleys and one killer climb. Keswick to St Bees.
Chris would like to complete this race in memory of my dad who we lost to Cancer in May 2012.
Dad was first diagnosed with Throat Cancer in 2008, as well as surgery he underwent rigorous courses of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. After almost losing him, he eventually won this battle.
In 2011 he was again diagnosed with Cancer in his Throat. We were told that this time it was a very rare and aggresive type of cancer and there were only 12 documented cases worldwide. This along with the previous Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy made treatment extremely difficult.
In September 2011 Dad underwent over 12 hours of surgery which involved removing a third of his tongue, replacing a section of his oesophagus (gullet) using a skin graft from his forearm and carrying out a tracheotomy (making a hole in his throat for him to breathe through). This left Dad unable to eat, drink or talk, but dad adapted remarkably and found his own way of communicating, especially with his 3 young grandchildren who he adored.
Dad aged 57 passed away on 12th May 2012 at home with his family by his side. The gaping hole he has left in our family will remain with us forever.
Dad always wanted to raise money for Mr Robsons Ear Nose & Throat clinic who looked after him over the years as a thank you and to help others in the same situation as him. Unfortunaly Dad never got the chance.
All money raised will be donated to Mr Robsons clinic in Whitehaven & Carlisle to fulfill Dads wish.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page and i hope you will help us to raise as much needed funds as possible
