Story
Hello,
In July I am hoping to fly out to Uganda with people from my uni to work for a charity called Soft Power Education. Whilst living in a rural village, I will help to build classrooms and improve facilities for the local children. I will be paying for my own flights, accomodation and spending money, however I need to raise at least £600 for the charity to be accepted onto the project!
A little bit about the project:
The Uganda Project works with a British registered Ugandan charity (Soft Power Education) to build schools and improve facilities for primary school children in rural Uganda.
In Uganda, the first two boys and the first two girls from each family have the right to free primary education. However, there aren't nearly enough schools or teachers to accomodate all of these children, often leaving classes of 100+. Soft Power works with the Ugandan government to build extra classrooms in existing schools in the areas of the country that are most in need.
- For every extra classroom that is built, the government has promised to try to provide an extra teacher!
Have a look through the photos that people took on the project last year, and look at the classrooms that were built! Please give anything you can, every penny counts!
On the 5th March I will have a stall in the union (just outside the terrace) selling Kripsy Kreme doughnuts between 10:00 - 16:00 so please come along and buy some!! Only £1.20 each!!
I will also be completing a 24 hour fast, which I really need people to sponser me for! For all of those who know me well, you will realise that this will not be an easy task! Date is to be confirmed.
I am also doing an otley run on St. Patricks day, which involves dressing up as wild animals and bucket shaking at 18 different pubs throughout Leeds. Please let me know if you would like to come along and show your support!
Last year I also completed a placement at Cobden Primary School and they have kindly offered to donate pens, pencils and toys for me to take out to the children in the summer.
Please let me know if you have any other fundraising ideas I could use! Thanks again for all your help!
