Story
Glen was an Urban Search & Rescue Dog with Trossachs SAR Team.
His mother, Meg and aunt, Gigha were also Urban SAR Dogs. Together with USAR Dog Fruin they attended the Stockline factory collapse in Glasgow in May 2004. Despite being the youngest dog he identified the location of one of the victims in the rubble. Meg, Gigha and Fruin also located victims.
Glen tore his cruciate ligament and was out of action for 18 months. He then fell 40 ft off an aquaduct - but was just winded - we always joked that he should have pilot's wings on his search coat. He went on to attend many incidents such as building collapses and missing person searches over a long career.
He was called in to assist Humberside Police in searches for concealed murder victim Joanne Nelson near Hull and by Lothian & Borders Police to search at Arrochar for murder victim Suzanne Pilley.
Despite his ageing years Glen continued to pass stringent external annual assessments, meaning he was still working at 14 yrs old, just like his mum and aunt.
Last November, Glen pulled on his harness and safety bootees for the last time to attend the Clutha pub disaster in Glasgow. Young dogs Taz and Jess took the lead role with Glen supporting them. Again, our dogs identified victims in the rubble.
Urban SAR Dog Glen was a remarkable dog who had a unique career. He is the sole dog to have attended the two most serious incidents that led to considerable loss of life in Glasgow.
Our USAR dog vehicle has reached the end of its life and we want to look after our team dogs with a van suited to having large cages with comfortable bedding inside, alongwith adequate heating for prolonged winter use and adequate cooled ventilation for summer use.
We want to recognise Glen's amazing life and provide an opportunity for people to donate money in his memory which will go towards providing a suitable van for his friends Taz, Jess and Mitch.
Donations can be made via this site or by texting TSAR04 £10 to 70070 (Just Text Giving by Vodafone).
Thank you very much indeed.
