Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The race was on Monday and it was brilliant! Exciting, exhausting and totally addictive! All eight riders and horses were fine - my daughter Peggy was the only bruised one as Smithy stood on her foot in the paddock. Collectively we have raised over £16,000 which is fantastic for the Air Ambulance but never enough so keep donating!
The Devon Air Ambulance Trust is the registered charity which raises the funds to keep both of Devon's Air Ambulances flying.
It costs £4 million per year to keep the two helicopters flying and every penny comes from donations and fund raising.
When injured in a remote location it's the time it takes to get paramedic care that can mean the difference between life and death. A cyclist in 1986 was not so fortunate as we are now and tragically lost his life following a fall. His mother decided to do something to prevent such deaths and after tireless research, vision and determination she was the inspiration for the Air Ambulance we have today.
On the 4th of May I will be riding in a 1 mile flat race with seven others. No prizes for winning but the end of four months trying to get from 14 stone to under 12 1/2.
Update 19th March - had my first and probably only training ride on Monday. Both exhilarating and exhausting to go at absolutely top speed on a thoroughbred horse. Good news is that now just under 12 1/2 stone - the challenge now is to get to 12.. Decided to use off-road biking back protector as it worked when I came off at about 50 mph in Morocco.....!! Need now to keep Smithy fit until 4th May - Peggy will be leading him round the paddock which is good. Apparently you will be able to bet on the race.
